A workshop held on 12th and 13th August 2016 was jointly organised by QCFI Coimbatore Chapter and Mechnical Department of Sri Krishna College of Technology featuring 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, Poka Yoke, Line Balancing, Overall Equipment Effectiveness.
On the first day Mr Raghuram Singh, Assistant Professor, Sri Krishna College of
Engg. was the resource person who covered the other subjects except 5S and
Kaizen. On the second day Mrs S Yogeshwari, Secretary, QCFI Cbe Chapter handled the 5S and Kaizen. Around 100 students from different colleges participated in the program.
Mrs S Yogeshwari, Secretary, QCFI Coimbatore Chapter was the Chief Guest for the Workshop. She pointed out that the quality concepts help industries to produce goods at low cost and high quality. She also emphasized that controlling and minimizing waste during production is the best way to save the materials and thereby reduce the production cost. Further she added that the selling price is fixed by the market. Therefore, to make profits, we need to keep the production cost low by reducing the wastage and working towards zero defect. These lean tools need to be understood by students and they have to get practical exposure on these lean tools.
She handled the 5S training program in the morning session and the students were asked to audit the college premises in the afternoon taking the inputs from the morning session on 5S. The students were divided into groups for this exercise and the observations of the groups were handed over to the college authorities. She also focused on (Sort-Set in order-Shine-Standardise- Sustain) which will directly improve Swatch Bharat scheme of Government of India.
In the afternoon session, she delivered a lecture on Kaizen. She informed that in Toyota Motor Corporation every year 5,50,00 kaizens are getting implemented as per the information given by the Toyota executives during the month of June 2016. The foundation of Toyota Motor Corporation is very strong because they have made 5S and Kaizen, a way of life.
